GLC 300 4MATIC steering wheel vibration
I bought a 2017 GLC 300 4MATIC at the end of November.
About a month ago, I started noticing an intermittent faint vibration in the steering wheel while driving at highway speeds.
It feels like the vibration of the tire treads rolling over the road is being transferred to the steering wheel. When I first noticed it, I assumed it was the result of driving on rougher sections of pavement and/or the Nokian snow tires I have on it for the winter.
Earlier this week I was driving on a highway that was repaved a few months ago, is very smooth, and in very good condition. As I was driving, I noticed that the vibration sometimes occurred and sometimes didn't.
At one point I was driving on a level part of the highway cruising at 100Km/hr and there was no vibration. Then I started climbing a small hill and as I opened the throttle to maintain 100K, I could feel the vibration again.
When I reached a level part of the highway again, I experimented by accelerating and decelerating. I was able to produce the vibration everytime I accelerated and make it disappear by decelerating. I also found that the more I opened the throttle, the more intense and noticeable the vibration was. When I released the accelerator and so the throttle was at idle, the vibration would disappear.
Note I was not accelerating hard or bring the RPM high. In fact, very light throttle applications would produce a noticeable vibration. Every test acceleration I did was in comfort mode, in drive (not manual), and the revs stayed in the 1,800-2,500 range.
I've owned 7 other cars prior to the GLC, have driven countless other cars, and this is the first one where I have experienced anything like this.
It is a relatively new phenomenon and has not been occurring from day one. I can't remember if I noticed it immediately after I put on the snow tires in late December. I'm pretty sure I did not notice it until several weeks after.
I'll probably wait and see if it's still there after I put the summer tires on before asking my dealer's service department to investigate.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
