Active Bonnet Reset

Driving home the other day, and a small deer ran in front of me. Slammed on the brakes, there was a massive bang and the bonnet looked like it had been pushed up towards the windscreen. Stopped the car, fearing the worst, but not a scratch on the car at all, no damage, no dents, just some hair caught in the grille !

The loud bang was the active bonnet triggering, and I suspect that I didnt hit the deer with much force at all, it ran away after I hit it so it was probably just a light blow, but obviously enough to trigger the active bonnet.

Need to take it to a dealer to have it reset and the pyrotechnic chanrges replaced. He told me that they would have to run a diagnostic (at a cost of £99) to confirm that this was what was required, and on top of that I'd have to pay for the cost of fixing it. Despite telling him that I knew it needed fixed (because the charges had been triggered, and because theres a message on the dash saying 'Active bonnet malfunction') he was adamant I needed to pay it. Only after complaining, and getting him to speak to his boss, did they agree to 'waive' the diagnostic charge, albeit I'll need to pay for the repair cost.

Anyone got any idea how much that is ? He couldnt tell me on the phone, said he'd have to look into it, blah blah, and get back to me. Need to decide whether or not to claim on my insurance, but obviously need to know the cost first and weight it up against me excess and no claims discount.

Hopefully it should be a lot less than paying excess and losing no claims discount, surely your dealer should be able to tell you what work is involved and the costs, speak to customer services to see if they can help.

Dealer just phoned back with the estimate....£387 !! Hinges, actuators, labour, etc....

Didnt think it would be that much, looks like I'll claim off the insurance, have no claims protection for it.

I had exactly the same happen to me last week - to a 'T'. I have just received a quote from my local Mercedes dealer to fix the problem (bonnet off, replace 2 x actuators, new hinges, replace bonnet) and the estimated cost? £1,093.20!! Did you REALLY pay only £387? There is such a huge difference!
