2015 or 2016 used glc

Hi guys,

I’m new here and planning to get a used GLC. I need some help with an age old question...
The cars I’m looking at are the 2015 Glc 250d premium plus with 13000 miles on it ( Obsidian black metallic) or else I found another one is a 2016 selenite gray premium plus and night package but with 26000 miles on it... the one I was really looking for was a black one with night package and 20inch but these are the best I could find at the moment.
Do you think I should go for lower miles or the 2016 one?

Thanks :)

Lower miles should be the way to go assuming all else equal. I'm not knowledgeable if there were any model year differences between the two
Depends on the condition of the paintwork and whether the colour / night package is enough to make you regret buying the car. 26k on a diesel engine isn't a huge mileage and remember you'll still have some of the manufacturers warranty on the later model. You should carefully check the tyres though, later will probably have been replaced, earlier ones not and bearing in mind the crabbing issues, should ideally be all weather.

In my case I almost always buy pre reg or late demos, mine was only 6 weeks old with 2500 on the clock but as I normally only do around 7000 a year it really didn't matter

ps. I've assumed you're in the UK!
I'd go newer grey on black looks great.is there much difference in price.
Could never understand black with night pack.
Welcome to the forum Bernard, can you please fill in your profile location so we know where you are.

You will know which car you want, I'm sure both will be good buys. Make sure whichever you choose has all weather tyres on to avoid the crabbing issue.
Thanks for the reply guys, I found another with low miles 12000 which is black with the night pack, so gotta wait for a reply unless it sold already.. I actually just want the night pack to get rid of the chrome around the windows as it looks better all in black I think, 20inch alloys on it make it even better. All things equal just the milage basically cause one is December 2015 the other March 2016.. so not much difference there

I guess the biggest challenge is now to decide between black or gray !!

Thanks
Agree regarding looks better without the chrome, you also get black inner wheels with night pack. If you are into cleaning the car regularly go for black, if not go for grey.,

Very good advice black looks awesome when clean but you will find yourself cleaning it every other day to keep it that way.grey very really looks dirty

Hi Bernard
Mine is a 250d obsidian black, night pack and black option 20" wheels. I also prefer black rather than chrome but the black trims have to be polished as they get obstinate rain spots which seem to stay on despite heavy waxing.

It does get dirty very quickly and in your case probably dusty so I wash mine at least twice a week but despit it liiking really god when first cleaned I won't be buying another black one. The grey Audi I had previously looked just as good and didn't show the dirt anywhere near as much.

Was twice a week a misprint Lons, did you mean year?.

You know what I said Phil ! Yeah AT LEAST twice a week. Usually rinse, snofoam, rinse, wash, rinse and dry. Polish about once a month, I am retired though so easier now but I've always done it. Wash my wifes' Mini Clubman every week but won't tough the inside and used to wash my VW Transporter every week as well

Wifie says I'm OTT, no idea whaere she gets that from.
Use of a QD (Quick Detailer) spray as a drying agent can cut down the number of times you need to wash the car. Black is such a fantastic colour for displaying dust accumulation but adding a spritz of anti-static QD whilst drying the car off after washing it will keep dust at bay for longer as well as giving additional protection and improved beading properties. Here are 2 of my favourite QD sprays:

Finish Kare Ultra Slick Polywipe

or for longer lasting protection: Sonax Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer
Don't let my wife know Lons, I am also retired and she thinks I am being kind washing her countryman every year.
Must admit my GLC is looking a bit grubby at the moment but sadly cannot wash it until the bodywork has been repaired in February, really disappointed!.
Yes I feel for your pain re the damage Phil, I would hate that and probably get rid after the repairs as it wouldn't feel the same. My son and daughter have cottoned on to my "alleged" OTT condition by parking their cars in my drive when I'm about to wash mine as they know I'll have to do theirs. I've started washing mine at random times to confuse them.

Does your wife like the countryman? My missus has had a string of Mini hatchbacks until we decided she needed 4 doors and room for a growing Labrador, Had a countryman for a week but she said it doesn't feel like a Mini so bought the new clubman which is a surprisingly big car however lack of view through the rear windows is a pain though I specced a rear camera so no excuse reversing accidents.:wink2: I think when we change she'll want a 4 door hatch despite less space.

I use the Sonax as well Toobad. It only adds a few minutes to the cleaning process and does seem to enhance the shine.

It might have been you who recommended it but I did do a lot of research on some of the detailing forums and bought a DA machine as which doesn't get much use but I'll use after the winter grime.

If you wasn't so far away you would find my car parked on your drive. I do go up to Herefordshire a few times a year, if I only had Toobads address!!!!.

You are correct about the damage Lons and unusually I will be trying to keep the car for 3 years , hopefully repair should be good as will be done through Mercedes accident management. Just a dink near filler cap but cannot repair and having to replace, hence over £8000 and 3 weeks.

My wife had a "normal" mini but was having trouble getting in and out due to dodgy knees, we changed to countryman and she loves it. Admit it isn't really a mini but well built and comfortable. I may look at the new X5 when I change cars, although I love the 43 and will have had the updates by then I am not happy having to change wheels/ tyres every 6 months because of crabbing.
Ok, then seems like a black one won’t do for me....I’m not the kind of guy that will wash my car weekly... so salenite gray it is!! Now, do you think the night pack looks good on a gray car or better no?

Thanks again !!
