Set to go on sale next year in North America, production has started for the new GLC Coupe at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant.
With the addition of the GLC Coupe, their Bremen plant will be producing 10 nameplates for Mercedes Benz and they currently employ around 12,500 people. These 10 plates are the C-Class sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet, the E-Class coupe and cabriolet, the SLC, the SL, the GLC and now the GLC Coupe.
The suggested retail prices for the coupe starts at €49,444 in Germany and £40,580 in the United Kingdom, North America will need to wait a bit longer for their MSRP as the model isn’t set to be released until early 2017.
While NA will only be getting the 241 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 coupe with 4Matic all-wheel drive and 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission, those in Europe will be able to choose from three powertrains.
Markus Schafer, a member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management, said: "With the start of production of the GLC Coupe, we are further expanding our SUV family as a key element in the Mercedes-Benz growth strategy. At the same time, we are strengthening the Bremen plant’s role as the main production site for the model series within our flexible and efficient production network. The team is doing a great job."
Later on Mercedes will come out with three more variations of the GLC so the GLC 350 e 4Matic Coupe (plug in hybrid), GLC 43 4Matic Coupe, and the GLC 63 4Matic Coupe may be built in the Bremen plant too.
