Does anyone know why we don't have Apple Car Play when all the other 2016 models have it?

I guess it may have been 1 app' too many to make it to market on time ? I've no idea if it can be applied retrospectively by a MB dealer, it might be worth asking next time you're passing ?

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case since we're dealing with a big brand, criteria for what they require before rolling out a product or service will always have to be up to par where its offered elsewhere.

That being the case they might make it available for 2016.5 production or just from 2017 going forward.

My order will on production in July for 2017 model and the dealer told me still NO Apple Carplay, I am in Canada....:(
I am just wondering can we actually have a software upgraded later on to have the Apple Carplay installed?
According to the salesman here in Iceland, you can have the option on having Apple CarPlay in the GLC, but not Android Auto at the moment. If that is true, I'm getting an iphone before my GLC comes in Oct :)
"The SUV will get a large central screen with Apple Car Play as standard along with ambient lighting."

such a shame that the GLC doesnt have this feature. I have used the Carplay for the first time in my Mother-in-Law's Hyundai Tucson... and was very jealous afterward...
My order is pending until CarPlay is confirmed. Dealer told me it will ship in 2017 models..... but I'm going to wait until I see it reported elsewhere.
While they're adding carplay why don't they upgrade comand to HD too :)

With all the major auto shows coming up you'll more than likely find out about it then, maybe at the upcoming Paris show? If so, make your way out to the one closet to you.
I have a 2017 model, no CarPlay.
I mean a car built in 2017 Production.
Ok so in order to get CarPlay MB need to swap to the new telematics that they already have in GLA and GLE.

C class won't see that until facelift which I guess is due for 2018's model of GLC.

So it is not just software upgrade for the feature. So the decision most likely have to do with stock/forecast on telematics that needs to be used up.

For the one that knows Swedish or wish to translate then this is what the tech guy at MB Sweden wrote to me in a mail:

"Apple CarPlay är tillgänglig från och med december produktion till NGCC-modellerna, C/A207, C/X218, W166 samt C292. Till bilarna med telematikgeneration NTG 5*2 (W/S/C205, X253, W/V/X222) blir utrustningen inte tillgänglig förrän de har bytt till nästa telematikgeneration.

Häromdagen bestämde fabriken sig för att inte införa MirrorLink för Android mobiler. Istället planerar man att introducera Android Auto någon gång under 2016."

Cheers

Hi,

My GLC is scheduled to be built in Jan 2017.
My salesperson called me to confirm that cars built from Jan 2017 will have CarPlay.... as this is a condition for my purchase.

Has anyone else heard anything similar?
There is nothing on web confirming this and I don't generally believe what a sales person tells me without any evidence.

I was almost going to start researching the NEW Audi Q5 which would be the alternative to GLC.

Cheers
My GLC will be built in Jan 17 , no mention of car play
I also had a look at q5
But I can't get one before April in U.K to beat the new road tax system and it will cost me £340 more each year to tax
Like for like spec ,GLC is cheaper and more economical as well as faster but only by a small margin, I think the leather seats and virtual cockpit in q5 are nice but they are options
I will have to settle with GLC as big savings for not having car play
Hopefully it can be retro fit later as heard from some members
I'm sure the new Q5 spec' up to GLC will cost more.
The virtual cockpit does look awesome though.... and the infotainment on Mercedes pales in comparison to BMW and Audi in my opinion.
I've been trying to work out why Mercedes can't put Apple Carplay into the GLC, Mercedes customer services are dreadful, read from scripts and do not listen to their customers. The workshop engineers have their arms tied behind their corporate backs.

What I have found out so far:

Sales and Workshop staff were told by Headoffice that the GLC would have Apple Carplay and that's why subsequently we as customers were promised Apple Carplay during purchasing of the car.
- The same staff were then told at a later date that the car could not support Apple CarPlay.

The technical reason I believe, is this:

Mercedes have implemented a version of Bluetooth that can only support upto 2 MB/s, even though over phones 4G connection is between 18 and 33 MB/s depending on which phone network you use.
- I can't confirm the Bluetooth speed as the iPhone/Andriod connections do not reveal the Bluetooth version, but I was told the speed by the senior workshop manager I deal with. Personally I think it is actually slower than this, probably Bluetooth version 2 which is only supports upto 2 mbit/s.

At this very low bandwidth, the data cannot be transmitted from the phone to the car quick enough... This is why the internet connection, internet browser, online apps are very slow and unusable in the car.

I must say I'm disgusted with Mercedes, as I bought the more expensive Command Audio system which comes with the large screen, specifically for Apple CarPlay!!

I would be interested in other peoples views?

If you were promised it, can't you then seek legal advice and get compensation?

My contract clearly states that CarPlay must be factory fitted (not some after market solution).
If in March when the car is ready for pickup there is no CarPlay....... I'm walking away.
I just bought and GLC 300 off road (built production 2017) and have no carplay
