Battery

Hi GLC Owners,
I've just managed to run the battery flat by leaving one of the reading lights on in the rear.

I've called my local Roadside team and they provided a sophisticated Charger. In the mean time the car is Dead and I cant lock / unlock etc, any tips on what I can do to speed up the charge cycle ?

Interestingly My VW couldn't seem to muster enough CCA to start the GLC beast! via trusty and heavy gauge Jumper Leads!

I'd love to know If here's a switch to disconnect the base load somewhere to allow trickle charging overnight.

BTW> Having now appraised myself of the battery bay and the position of the fresh air intake and pollen filter for the cabin placed over the battery the design just seems insane. I guess MB Engineers of the GLC dont expect owners to head into a full bonnet river fording! Nor should the sealed battery ever be replaced with a regular battery once would hope its never over charged enough to fume.

Update:

I Worked out how to use the physical key slotted in the Remote to open the rivers door same as most euro cars.

Overnight charging with a New hi-tech Charger recommended by NRMA the Auto Association Technician has not brought the beast back to life. I suspect the AGM mode de-sulphate doesn't work when the battery is connected to the Vehicle.

I've logged a call with MB Road side assistance and They are sending a technician for a Jump start and possible no charge battery swap.

The beast slumbers on, time to engage the vacuum cleaner while I wait.

As Expected the Mercedes Benz Tech arrived within 30 minutes ( on a long weekend Sunday ) Checked and Jump started using a well charged donor battery.
He suggested I take a 40 minute round trip anywhere ( not freeway ) and we turned the auto start off manually to be sure I made it past the T intersection at the end of my street.

Paper done work and car running in under 10 minutes

I took the Car for a 2 hour drive and found some old road sport mode action, The Warning to "Stop vehicle and leave engine running" dash warning dissappeared at about 45 minutes.
I've use the charger to top up the battery and we're all good,

I'm thinking I'm going to get a new jump battery similar as it was much more convenient than the truck Jumper leads I've had for 10 years.

BTW you'll need a T40 Torx and a 8 inch extension bar If you need to swap out batteries after the 3 year warranty.

Crisis avoidance!

Sean, thank you for that valuable information. My 2019 GLC 300 is approaching 2.5 years in with slightly over 14K miles on it. Just to avoid the problem of having the battery died at the most inconvenience time, I wonder if I should just get the battery replace when I bring the car in for the 3 years maintenance.
