Bought my car new 1/2016 and since I have had it, if the car is in sport or sport + mode it jerks when you slow down or take off. Not a small jerk but throw your head forward type of jerk and causes the steeling wheel to shake. It has been in the shop multiple times and they can't figure it out. A video of the issue was sent to Germany and still no resolution.

Well I guess it wasn't the engine mount or anything like that since it would have been picked up.

If you just went to one dealership, try checking out another one. There has to be some tech out there who can figure it out or know what's going on.

It might also help to look up reviews of that dealer you went to, just to see what the experience of others have been like.

Do you get any warning messages during these faults? Mine did, and the shop tried several times to update the sofware but what made the difference was changing the ECU for the transmission. Thats on a GLC350e with the old 7-speed transmission though.

There are lots of these reports on US focussed forums as well. I'm wondering whether this is the next big issue for Mercedes to deal with....

1. Brake squeal
2. RHD Crabbing/skipping
3. Windscreen wiper judder
4. Jerky gearbox at low (or slowing) speed
5. Car is a fire hazard

Nice one Mercedes ;)

Did you ever get this figured out?

I'm experiencing the same issue with my GLC43. I'm taking it in later this week to hopefully replicate the problem with a tech in the car. It's common enough that it happens every day but not every time. Hopefully I can replicate it for the tech.

This seems to be a reported transmission issue/problem on both the GLC43 and the C43.

The jolting/bucking should not be confused with a hard shift that is common in Sport+ modes on most cars but rather a rough, harsh, bouncy feel as the car jolts and shudders forward (picture mechanical bull). In my case the car refuses to regain composure unless I switch it back to comfort mode. I've also managed to do it once in Sport, albeit, sport+ is where this issue is most common.

Real bummer... hopefully it's something that can be patched but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

Hello,

I've experienced the same issue, 4 times now. Always in Sport Mode, except I did have a couple of "soft jolts" in Comfort mode too.

I've had the car for almost 3 months now. First 5-6 weeks, I only drove in Comfort mode, not exceeding 3K RPM, during the break-in period. So I've only been experiencing the "problems" in the last 6 weeks or so.

The last bad jolting/jerking experience was this weekend, at a 4-way stop. In Sports mode, it's my turn to go, started off with good acceleration (but not aggressively at all, perhaps a third to half of the way on the gas pedal), and the car just started jerking/jolting like crazy, I thought I might break my front teeth on the steering wheel! I had so let go of the gas completely and let the car slow down... so there I am slowing to a halt, in the middle of the intersection, in my Benz GLC43, everyone staring at me of course probably asking what kind of idiot was trying to clutch a clutch-less car! VERY humiliating, certainly not the attention I was hoping to get driving around in this car.

I am very concerned about this, I am having the car checked out at the dealer of course. It's insulting actually that MB would let a car out of its manufacturing plant with these problems. I'm sure they noticed it during the months of tests they must have done? Considering the sticker price of the car, and that it has the AMG badge, this is totally unexpected and frankly unacceptable. The honeymoon has to last longer, no?! I previously drove a SLK55 AMG for 4 years, and that car was awesome, it got me excited and happy every minute I spent behind the wheel. Of course, I expected a difference in the driving experience between the SLK and the GLC, but I was not expecting the constant frustrations I have of not knowing how the car will respond to my request for it to accelerate, it is so unpredictable, I never know what to expect when I press on the gas pedal. Sometimes so sluggish, other times not, and then there are these massive violent jerks... Not normal to feel so frustrated when spending upwards of CAN $90K on a car... are the new GLC43 owners all feeling the same way?

I have other problems that I will be posting in different thread. Because this one is about the jolting/jerking problem, I didn't cover the other issues I've encountered.

Welcome to the forum Andre.

Will be interested to read about your other issues , your car isn't the norm I haven't had ANY issues with mine, hopefully your dealer will sort them out.

Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear about the issues. But how long have you owned your GLC for and how many miles do you have on it so far?

I feel you. I had an update done for the car that the dealer thought might fix the jolting. Still there. It's embarrassing when it happens and dangerous as I have to take my foot fully of the throttle and switch modes before being able to use the car again. I'm away for a month but will be bringing the car back into the dealer in July for further investigation into the issue. I'm really choked as I custom ordered this car. I have only owned it a month and I would be lying if I didn't mention that I have already started to look at trading it in for something else.

Here are the other 2 smaller issues I have noticed too. 1) Chatty windshield wipers and 2) Misalignment on the cupholder lid which results in the lid making contact and scraping against the surrounding plastic parts.

How can a car even make it out of the quality control stage with such obvious issues? Shame on you, Mercedes.

Thank you Philamg, I've not yet posted information on other issues. Still trying to find driving patterns that might be useful for the forum discussion and/or my dealer! It's around what I would call "car stuttering" when I am nearing a full stop. LIke in the old days when we drove standard/stick cars, and it was time to press on the clutch before the car stalled... it's very, very annoying seeing I am in traffic about an hour a day with stop and go all the time. Good thing there's not one beside me trying to apply make up, because it would be an ugly sight! I've been tuning off the Brake Assist option for the last week, and I do think it has relieved this stuttering as I am slowing down (i.e. in the 4 to 8 km range, with no downshift pressure, gear in on second as I am in comfort mode).

Anyhow, that's my biggest pet peeve right now. But I am also unhappy with the sluggish departures, the inconsistent accelerations and gear shifts of the car (particularly in Sport mode), not knowing what to expect when applying pressure on the gas pedal, and of course (as originally posted), the almighty massive jerking that happens form time to time to make this GLC43 owner just so embarrassed and humiliated and insulted at how much money he's put out there for a machine that is not consistently worthy of its AMG badge... underlining the word consistent because it does sometimes bring a great smile and satisfaction, but not knowing what the car will do whenever I press on the gas is terribly frustrating and stressful. I should be free to drive off how I feel I want to drive off, but I'm mostly stressed as I go from a red light or 4-way stop.... I only feel truly comfortable when I am cruising down the highway with my cruise control activated, with loud music in the back ground. Then I am relaxed and happy about my purchase, because it is a quite comfortable ride. Problem is I bought the car for the fun factor, for the acceleration, the powerful departures, the gargles and the consistent joyful drive my previous SLK55 gave me...

Last time I spoke to my dealer (salesman), he said this was all normal, this is how this car is meant to be, a bit "rough on the edges".... I think that's BS. One should not satisfied with this kind of stuff after spending this amount of money! Otherwise we'd all be driving Hyundai or Toyota or Kia, or......!

Oh well...

I bet he's assuming you're just discovering the sport mode on a car for the first time. Can't blame him as I'm sure sales people deal with many uneducated buyers who might be surprised that sporty usually means less comfortable, not to mention the car will hold revs and shift harder. It's a shock to some.

Obviously the car "personality" will change in sport/sport+ mode. That's the point. That's why it's important to let them know that it's not your first rodeo and that this is different.

I owned 2 macans in my lifetime (had to ditch the Macan due to moving to an area with no dealership) among other performance based cars (I drove mostly in sport/sport+ on all my previous cars) and can tell you, without a doubt, that the GLC43 is not working as intended. Something is seriously wrong with either the transmission or something related to the transmission, or potentially something on the software side. My suspicion is this is impacting many GLC's as I have stumbled on this complaint on several forums and even on the C43 forums. The C43 uses the same transmission, if I'm not mistaken.

You should take it in and try to replicate the problem. I've already done so. Had the foreman at the dealership immediately confirm it was NOT normal. However, their update did nothing to fix the issue. In a month I'll be back in town and will take it back to the dealership. If anything comes of it I'll be sure to update. If not, then I'm trading the car in and not for anything with a 43 attached to it. As you mentioned, no point owning an AMG branded vehicle if you can't safely and consistently have fun with it and push it to what it was intended for.

I have a 2017 GLC AMG 43 COUPE with 1700kms on it and it has this exact same issue in Sport+. It just buckles so much when taking off I'm afraid I might kill somebody with the car. How are you supposed to enjoy driving when the car just keeps on lurching!

Not only that, when slowing down in ANY mode, it just jerks to a stop. Most pronounced when you are slowing down from any gear beyond 3 and going down to 2. It feels a bit like the car is slow-motion shaking to a complete stop. If you creep at the same gear though (2 mostly), then it doesn't do it at all; otherwise, it's like a crab doing a slow motion crawl to a stop.

I complained to the dealership at around 1200kms and I was told that the jerky slowdown was "normal", alongside with the Sport+ craziness. They gave me the old "it's adjusting to your driving style so give it until 3000kms" BULLSHIT.

I have other performance oriented cars, most recently a BMW M550i and it's so smooth, whenever I drive the GLC I get so frustrated I want to pour gasoline on it an BURN the MOFU. Does Mercedes USA treat customers any better or is it just Mercedes Canada? Would going to another dealership make any difference?

Come to think of it, the dealership also lied about "adjusting parameters" on the car (nothing to do with Mercedes Corp. as a whole of course). They just reduced the pressure on all tires to 30PSI and hoped I didn't notice it.

Thanks!

I have a 17 GLC43. When I'm in sport mode and merging into traffic, from a stop position. After I get off the gas, the car jerks violently. It seems the tranny is hunting for the right gear to be in. This doesn't happen everytime. I'm thinking the rpm's might have something to do with it. It's a unsafe problem. Also when the car is cold, the gas pedal is hard or heavy lack of a better term. Told the tranny oil must warm up. One more, when car is again cold and I take my foot off the brake. I get a squeaking noise, only when coming off the brake not when stopping. 2k miles on the car not to happy with a 39 month lease.

Welcome to the forum. In regards to your brakes, check with your dealership. Some people on here have had their brake pads replaced.

Those are major safety concerns and I would contact corporate if the dealership is trying to dodge it all. Take it to the dealership again and demand that they get something done about it. When the car is cold and the brakes make a squeaking noise when you get off the pedal, it could be that the piston is taking a long time to retract the pads or something perhaps?
