I could do it on the Discovery sport and there is 10gb of harddrive on the entertainment system of the GLC, was easy on discovery, just put cd in and it asked if you wanted to upload it.

That's what I thought Mercedes but "save to media register" is greyed out. tried it with a couple of different cd's and both the same, may be a problem with my car.

This is weird, I just looked in the manual and it doesn't describe this function at all. I was pretty certain it was described as part of the functions. Of the system.

Not that I use it as I have all the music I require on my phone but still I expected it to be there.
It's in MY17_Command on page 150.....

I think JP means the cars handbook, it is in the online command version but I still can't get it to work, taking to dealers next Tuesday for them to sort. We don't get a hard copy of the command manual in UK.

Indeed and it isn't in the model specific app guide on the iPhone either. My generic command manual for the GLS shows it in there as well....

Ah well, plenty more discs fit on my phone than on that hard drive ;)

I have tried it yesterday. It doesn't seem to work with cd's, only with SD card or usb flash drive.
I tested with several cd's, and it stays greyed out.

I guess this would be normal, unless MB would have included some Ripping software in the Comand.
What you could do, is copy cd's on a computer to mp3, then to usb or SD card, and save to media register;

I haven't looked at the manual yet. Just out of curiosity :)

My GLS command can rip to the hard drive. But doesn't have the live traffic and mapping updates. I wonder whether with Command Online the hardware is taken up by other features. Regardless the hard drive was so small, it is much better and easier to buy a high capacity SD card if you can't use a phone for whatever reason.

Thanks for trying Jakes, 0n page 149 of the online command manual it says:

You can copy photos, music files and data from the following mediums:
Disc (CD and DVD) , SD card, USB storage device and MP3.
Will find out what dealer says next week.

I use a 1TB drive plugged into the centre console with about 500 albums on it but a friend gave me 12 CD's I did not have in my collection and I was able to transfer all of them to the internal hard drive as well as find some of the missing album covers through the data connection with my phone and using the updating Metadata selection....seems weird it is greyed out like that....

Called into dealers today and they confirmed in the UK you cannot load cd's directly onto hard drive.
