Dashboard not lighting up - intermittent problem

Hi everyone, my 2017 GLC 220d Sport Premium Plus has developed an unusual fault that I can’t find anything related to online. In the colder weather the dashboard occasionally fails to come on when I unlock the car. Everything is working - lights, indicators, cruise control etc - just no display or driver information system. Subsequent starts it will come on and work perfectly. My local independent MB garage haven’t come across it and diagnostics virtually impossible with such an intermittent fault. Anyone else had this and resolved it? Any suggestions most welcome. I should note that this is only the dashboard - the Comand screen in the centre works perfectly. Thank you.

Hi, did you manage to get to the bottom of this, dash on my 2016 GLC has just gone off?
Interesting you say its due to the cold, any reason you suggest this?
Am the same and cant find any solution other the people taking to the dealer and still no solution. Ive just had to pay for a diagnostic and Nox sensor replacement after one of them failed for a 2nd time so not wanting to take it back in again and get stung :(
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Hi,

sorry to hear about your NOx sensor. Ouch!

I said my issue was weather related because I have had no instances through the warmer months. I have found that it works fine if I wait for the car image in the startup screen to flash its’ lights! I suspect it’s a power issue and, since the original battery is five and a half years old, I’m having it replaced next week. I’ll let you know.

BTW, multiple outlets have said that a new battery needs to be coded to the car. More MB b*******s to stop us doing even simple repairs!!

Just wondered if you had found the reason for this happening? many thanks Andy

The 'coding' is required for a new battery as the system reduces the amount of charge the battery receives as it begins to fail. The coding returns the battery charging back to factory level.
Thanks for that info, makes sense I suppose.

To complete this thread, it appears that my issue has been caused by low battery charge level (was 60% charged when tested). Guess I’m not using the car enough to top it up in winter-time. Using a trickle charger has resolved things.
