Hyacinth Red GLC

Here in the UK, Mercedes decided that naming a colour after a flower rather than a bird would be more appealing so goodbye Cardinal and hello Hyacinth!

I love the way the paint changes colour depending on the strength of the light at different times of the day. Anyway, here is my 220d in Sport trim with the Premium Plus package, Air Body Control suspension, Off-road package and 360 degree camera. The paint is now super shiny as I have spent over 12 hours attacking it with a machine polisher to knock back some of that dreaded orange peel effect that seems to come as standard on all new cars these days. With the flatter paint surface the metallic flakes now really pop in the sunlight.

Hi Klass and thanks for the compliment! I've been into the dark art of "detailing" for a while now and websites like Autogeek and Detailing World have managed to elevate my hobby into a full blown OCD as well as cost me a small fortune. So what you see here is the culmination of my quest for the ultimate shine and that turned out to be Blackfire's "Wet Ice Over Fire" kit. The kit contains Blackfire's Wet Diamond paint sealant and their Midnight Sun ivory carnauba wax along with a bottle of their detailing spray. Being an American product it is somewhat specialist and not found on the High Street in the UK but can be obtained online at a price which would make many baulk!

Blackfire Paint Care System

Wet Ice Over Fire kit from UK website £102.95 delivered

Of course with all detailing, 90% of the end result comes from the preparation so before even thinking of applying a product of this value, the clearcoat has to be free of all scratches swirls, tarspots etc. if you are going to achieve the desired result. But if you put it into perspective, Mercedes charge £400 for their SupaGard paint protection treatment yet the actual products used can be obtained from eBay for around £30.

That definitely is a pretty penny to pay! But oh heavens it seems so worth it. I admire those that have the patients and talent to achieve results like that. Kinda funny how the name is utterly fitting to your GLC as well !

Alpha what a stunning job you have done; Never seen such a deep flawless shine like that before. Looks infinitely better than the MB publicity photos, maybe you should sell them on!

Nice job well done..

Alpha put up the Mercedes rendering. That's Red Ken, my non-crabbing 220d :grin2:

From what I picked up on, that photo alpha posted came right from Mercedes Configurator, everyone should be seeing the same thing, that's if you configured your GLC online.

Real life photos like what owners here shared is what its all about for me, keep them coming :D
