Freelander to GLC?

Hi All.. a bit new around here and just looking for some advice if I could please.

For 20 years now I've had Land Rover.. Not the big ones, just Freelanders as I like the price and running costs. I have one of the last Freelanders made as when the new Discovery Sport came out I was not a fan and one we had at work had no end of issues, so I've kept my trusty Freelander in warranty for the past 10 years. Its now 10 and over 100K miles so has to go as its my business vehicle also.

So, what to buy. I've looked at Volvo and a few other makes but nothing floated my boat. XC60 plug in would be good, but 10 months waiting list for a new one.

I'd bought a GLC300 4matic plug in (2 ltr diesel) for a rep that works for us on a 21 plate with 10K on it and thought it looked rather smart... Well, said rep has now gone and it's mine if I want it :)

So a couple of questions if I could

1 It's a plug in hybrid which is good, and it goes very well, but where I work in Halifax there are a low of big hills some 1:3. In the snow my Freelander with its hill decent has always been great coming down hills and braking the wheels itself, so the question is, what are GLC's like in snow? up hill and especially down hill?

2 I have a small trailer that I use for the tip and to move motorbikes on, but I did read somewhere that you can't fit a tow bar to the plug in cars? is this correct as that would cause me issues.

It's a very nice car, not as big or tall as the Freelander but maybe a change will do me good. Anything more I should know about them. I'd have to learn all the gizmos its got on as in comparison, the Freelanders bog basic.

Any advise welcome... :)

Welcome, I’ve got a 350d amg prem plus, it’s had its issues, the main problem to which the main stealers aren’t interested in is the drivers seat has worn on the cushion which seems to be a common theme, I was at stealers again yesterday trying again to get them to do something!!! As my car only has 37000 on the clock but they wouldn’t budge🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ The answer I got was “ I must be getting in and out of the car wrong🤣🤣🤣🤣, the reason I’m telling you all this is that the seats are not leather they are vinyl and are not robust at all, so use a seat cover( not pretty) but could save your seat and watch the tyre wear and crabbing issues which you can find threads about on this forum, enjoy your car.

Hi, many thanks for your reply and if I keep the car I'll make sure I watch for that.
From the lack of replies I've had to my post, I'm either in the wrong forum, or GLC owners are not forward at giving out info? Or maybe a lot of owners don't know and just drive the things?
Maybe this is a difference between Land Rover owners and Merc owners??

I find that reply’s are slow, I’m going to get rid of mine as not just what I’ve told you but for what I’ve lost in value since last November when I bought it, to be honest I wanted an sq5 plus but couldn’t find one with the spec I wanted, don’t get me wrong but the glc looks good and the fact the one I got is an amg was a bonus, but I do honestly think Audis are better built, I sold my 2008 a6 avant with 190000 miles and it was absolutely immaculate without a single creak or groan, the only things I replaced in 7 years of owning it was an alternator bearing, ns front spring and two drop links, I don’t think mercs in general are built to last, they may look good but when you start looking at servicing etc they are starting to get silly certainly in the current climate we are in, I honestly hope this doesn’t put you off as they are nice to drive

Yes, maybe, Ive never had a Merc before, they did go through a bad patch I know, but over the LandRover I do find them full of stuff you don't need, and the stuff you do need, you don't get unless you have to pay more for it?
Mine is a 300 4matic AMG, but it does not appear to have adaptive cruse, just a red triangle that comes on, no lane departure, I can't get the dash cam to work, and nothing appears to work the same way twice LOL... also no heated screen. Its full of stuff thats just a distraction? Maybe all modern cars are the same... its a company car so the rest does not bother me luckily but I've not sure I'll keep it long if indeed I take it on. Did wonder why my back was so warm the other day, but if the seats are plastic like you say, that explains it... (y)(y)

I agree with you on the amount of stuff you get and don’t need but the stuff you do need is more than likely an optional extra like leather is even on an amg which you think would be standard, servicing prices are steep too as is the gearbox service, I was curious about Mercedes’ am pleased I’ve tried them but unfortunately this is my first and definitely my last, they are very blingy where I think Audi are understated, I was told by a mechanic that mercs tend to be designed and made that makes them quite sensitive and fragile but they look good, now I’ve owned one I do tend to agree with what he says

indeed, a lot of bling. Get past that and they and they are nothing special at all... A bit disappointed. Like you, I've never had one before or even a German car come to that. I may look at the other options before taking this on .. Q series maybe.
Its not good in a AMG that you have to pay for the bits you really want, I thought it would of had the lot?
As yourself, ill not venture this way in the future (y)
