Hey all.

I just took delivery of a 2021 GLC 220d with Premium Plus Pack as a trade in for my 2018 GLC 220d.

I've discovered the lack of park assist - I know its been debated - but it's totally disabled right? Even the parallel parking as I had on my old car?
It's listed in my build document -but the VIN check reveals the infamous 'reduced' entry for Park Assist.

Also - I noticed that in my boot there's no longer the chrome handle on the storage compartment on the boot floor - nor is this lockable. Also there's no little hook to stop the thing closing on your head as there was in my other car.

Is this correct? Have the removed the lockable feature/chrome handle and pushed it to the 300 series or above?

Seems a strange thing to shift especially with the Premium Plus pack.

No jack too - but an inflator and tyre filler gloop - is this correct? They've also removed the run flats I had on my old GLC.

I would have thought park assist would be for the premium + pack not the premium pack.

Sorry. Yes. My bad. I have the premium plus pack - but it’s officially been disabled. It’s all over the web. MB have deactivate any automatic control over the steering of their cars.
Odd, my GLE has over the air updates and it still works in that.

I haven't seen anything on the internet about it.

I have just checked on the configurator and you need to order the driving assistance pack on the GLC, it isn't included in the premium plus pack and as far as I am aware never has been.

On the GLE it comes as part of the premium plus package

In my vehicle order it shows as 'parktronic park assist package'

When I check the VIN online there's an added entry for a 'service reduction' for park assist.

It's some UN ruling that MB haven't been able to work around. My old 2018 had parallel parking. I have all the right packs - but the feature has been disabled.

You may find that if it comes back from a service you'll have lost the feature. Not sure it's OTA or one of those 4 hour long firmware updates the dealers do on a service.

Honestly- I think the only MB that has it now from new is the S class.

There's a tonne of people chatting to the Motor ombudsman about this. I paid for the full package - it's detailed on my sales order. My dealer and sales chap have no idea why it's not there but they are looking Into it.

I am 100% sure they wont get anywhere.

You must have paid £1600+ for the driving assistance pack it doesn't come with the premium plus pack on the GLC, check the configurator and never has done.
I buy motor magazines every week and I am on the GLE forum every day and there has been NO mention of it, it can still be ordered on the GLC configurator.
I have a service booked at the end of June.

I can't find anything on google referring to this, can you post the link you have seen

Also if there is a ton of people talking to the motoring ombudsman why haven't they posted on here?..

Not sure what you mean - I have the GLC 220d premium plus. Not the GLE - I have the vehicle order sheet and the VIN also confirm it's on the car..

I am not sure If I am allowed to link to other forums but if I can..

Here's the grab from my vehicle order - clearly parktronic is listed on the order.

There is NO mention of it being disabled on the GLE forum, if it was a fault with the system surely it would be on all models not just the GLC.

It's not a fault - it's a UN directive that has come into operation. If you look at that link it links to a UN document/Law.

If your car is older than 2019 it wont be disabled - if it is newer then it will be - may happen when you take it in for a service.

on the E class they've added sensors to the steering wheel which means the parktronik can be used.

Essentially MB haven't put this on any other car until now - so the directive from the UN states the wheel and/or pedals have to have some sort of sensor that knows if control has been made by the user. Audi's have it in the steering wheel and pedals - even ford's have the steering wheel sensor.

Why MB didn't update their cars with this since 2019is another story. Also - the point is though - that they are still selling the option (as part of a package) for the same price even though this feature is disabled and according to MB have no timescale or even promise that it can be put back on.

If you check your VIN online - I did and I have this added:

8B8 Active Parking Assist reduction (UN R79)

I tried the vin decoder and all it did was tell me the build of the car, mine was built in 2019 and a lot of the owners on the GLE forum have cars that have been recently built with parking assist.
It is a fault if you are being told you cannot have it because it is dangerous not to have your hands on the wheel.
Nothing in the press about it, all seems to be on GLC forum!.

Sorry what do you mean it is a fault.

It's simple - cars are built with it, then it's disabled.

It's on A class too.

I think there's some confusion with park assist and active park assist. Active park assist is the whole thing - swinging into and out of car park spaces. Park assist is what I had on my 2018 GLC which is parallel parking only - however -they've switch BOTH off.
NOT on GLE'S, I have active park assist.
On the mercedes portals it says no recalls due on my car:

0) Measures applicable to your vehicle have been identified.
According to the latest information, your vehicle is not affected by the measures relating to - Diesel software update - Refrigerant changeover - Takata airbag
