Versus the outgoing GLK the GLC has grown in significant areas, probably more a result of the GLA's existence then representing segment demands...

Next to the GLK, the GLC is 4.7 inches longer, 2.0 inches wider, and 0.3 inch taller. It rides on a wheelbase stretched by 4.6 inches, while the tracks are up by nearly two inches in front and 0.8 inch in back.

So it can grow because the GLA is filling in the small CUV part of the segment? Models tend towards getting bigger over time anyway so I'm not surprised that much.
Yes, the GLK has been fighting undersized for seveal years now. Its not so much that the truck has gotten bigger, just that its now in line with the segment. The GLC is now roughly the same size as an X3. 1 mm shorter... lower too...

Especially in the SUV/CUV segment people are looking for that cargo space so being undersized can be a big disadvantage. I suppose it was inevitable that Mercedes would play catch up when they got the chance.
