Sitting in MB garage and have just been told yet again that the SERIOUS BRAKE SQUEAL on my 2017 GLC is not covered under warranty. I even showed them a video of how bad it is and quoted all the info and part numbers listed above but they are having none of it. They want over £450 to replace the front and rear pads. 😱
no this is not right, they have a serious problem with this car

My wife also bought this car in 2016 and had it serviced 4 times in the last year to try to attempt to fix these breaks. The latest response this last week was that the pads were replaced (again), lubricated and supposedly followed a "new" set in procedure. As a side note, whatever this set in procedure entails, it involved driving our car almost 30 miles during its last service. Has anyone come across any real documentation or response from Mercedes on this issue? How can they continue to keep selling these cars. If we knew this potential we would have never purchased the GLC.
This is so ridiculous that they can not fix this. I have the exact problem.

I have terrible issues when putting my 2019-GLC 300 in reverse. The squeak can last for up to 20 seconds. I have brought the car into Mercedes, have had the brake pads replaced, and 500 miles later, it still does squeaks like crazy. Mercedes says they know about the issue and are aware of it. That really helps me a lot. Had I known about this prior or had someone advised me when I purchased the car, I would never have bought it.
I would never of purchased the car as well and I will let everyone I know about this and how Mercedes treats you. This is not right, that is exactly what my car is doing.

We are having the same issue with brake sound. We took it for a fix and it seemed to go away for few weeks and again its making the sound. It is so embarrassing every time taking it out in the neighbourhood, literally everyone can hear us go out, so annoyinggggg. The dealer says to drive the car FAST and put a SUDDEN BRAKE, seriously??? I have a child in the car, why should we have to drive rash for their mistakes?
I am with you on this, how annoying and same thing, people always look at me when I put it in reverse in my neighborhood.

* UPDATE *
So, I brought my 2017 GLC300 to the dealership today after experiencing loud squealing brake noise and I have 2 things to share:

(1) They explained that MB brakes are designed to be used with moderate to heavy braking pressure, and there can be a transfer layer from the pads to the rotors that needs to be worn off with regular braking, otherwise some squealing noise can result. Also, this can be more noticeable in colder weather, which is what we experience here in Toronto.

(2) They still agreed to examine the brakes and ended up replacing all 4 pads and associated brake liners (in the brake shoes). What's interesting is that in the invoice, they printed the fact that this GLC300 brake squeal had MB technician tips #L142.10-P-064944 and #L142.10-P-065927 associated with the recommended repair to replace brake pads and liners. Even if this is an internal technician blog for tip sharing, or if this an official MB release, it tells us that this is a known issue with some type of corrective action.

No more squeal, but time will tell, especially as the weather gets colder, and dry again.
THIS SQUEALING IS A COMMON ISSUE

Trillende remmen bij koud en nat

Hoi,

We have had the “fix”done on our GLC it did not correct the problem. If your dealer says they have a fix they are lies our dealer has no idea how to fix our brakes! BARRIE Canada
This is correct; there is no fix. I was initially told there is a problem with this model; then dealer did all kinds of things to correct (FoC), and within 3 hours brakes were squeaking again. Non-stop annoyance with the constant squealing in reverse. So irritating with an auto of this stature. 🤨

I had this issue, about 2 years ago. The car is driven very gently on a daily basis by my Dad. Took is to MB they wanted £700+ for new discs and pads . The car was 2 years old with about 16k miles on it. I took the car and done a few emergency brake stops and some hard braking and it never happened again. I gotta add that the brake pads and discs wear very quickly.
Pads changed at 26k miles and now on 32k miles with MB saying the rotors are now worn. I can’t believe it, the cars 2018.

Yep, had the rear Pads replaced as "one time courtesy". Still squeak in reverse.

I have a 2017 Mercedes GLC. I have taken it into the dealership THREE times for the squeaky brakes. The first time, which was in the spring, the brakes were replaced. The sound stopped but came back within a few weeks. I brought it back again in the fall. Because the brakes had already been replaced once, the dealership had to record the sound in order to replace the brakes a second time. Adjustments were made with thicker pads; the sound came back. Last month, I returned the car again. The dealership had the car for two weeks. A paste was added to the brakes. With the cold weather, the sound is louder. It diminishes after a few minutes but the level of the sound does not dissipate when the car is in reverse. I plan to bring the car back a FOURTH time after the New Year. This is UNACCEPTABLE for any car, let alone a luxury brand like Mercedes. I am self-employed and the dealership is two miles away. Service is courteous and professional so I don't mind bringing it back (of course there is a loaner) but enough is enough. What about all the other people who don't have a similar convenience? I have two friends who are experiencing the same problem. It's embarrassing for me and bad PR for Mercedes. If any of you are lawyers I would explore the possibility of some kind of legal recourse.
I have a 2020 vehicle with the same issue and I am now on my fourth visit the dealership. I am now looking to take legal action.

I have a 2020 GLC 300 coupe and have been experiencing this issue since January of 2021. I am on my fourth visit with the brakes and now looking to take legal action because the dealership made me pay out of pocket to replace the brakes and rotors and are now trying to get me to replace the front brakes and rotors which have been documented as fine.

I called Mercedes customer service to request to terminate my lease immediately. I am told that this process can take 6-8 weeks.

Sorry to hear you are having the brake squeal issue. I would go to another MB dealer if there is one in your area. Hold your cards on other dealer wanting you to do front brakes. Record a video on your phone and show service advisor, then send to she/he so it can be documented and shared with Technician, if needed. Also, ask the new dealer to confirm what Generation pads were used on your car; maybe you have an older generation?? If so, more cause for your case.Your current dealer seems a little suspect IMO with what you have stated. See what the new dealer comes back with as a course of action. If it is a 180 degree change, you have some ammo in speaking with MB USA. Hey, my original dealer told me I needed new front brakes and second dealer confirms they are fine!
I'm guessing you are outside the window for Lemon Law??

Call MB USA and request to speak with Executive Services. Be firm but polite. They are not the best at follow-up so be prepared for some work on your side. Personally, I would come from the position that you know it is an issue (i.e. GLC forums, Youtube (my favorite video :)
), & that MB has had several Versions/updates of the pads to rectify the noise). They sometimes do a "one time courtesy". My second replacement has helped about 70 percent. All pads squeal in cold. GLC's are just a bad design that has a latent defect which makes they REALLY bad. I'm just dealing with it and hope the next upcoming 2nd generation GLC has no issues. If you get them to say yes to replacing the brakes push for new rotors as well- especially if you have some miles logged on the car; no sense putting new pads on rotors that will wear out before pads, plus the rotors may be part of the squeal issue in conjunction w/ pads). Tell them I want to continue being a MB customer with all my future car purchases (politely put the ball in their court). If you get some run-around, write a letter to MB Dimitris Psillakis, Mercedes-Benz USA president and CEO. Light a fire under the Exec. Services advisor. You will most likely still have the same person so that's who you have to deal with.... If they say yes to new pads and rotors ask what about me paying for the pads and rotors when you have replaced brakes for others?? Say, can you reimburse me by applying to my lease payments?? I'm looking for fairness from a Luxury brand....

Best of luck.
I love the car when it is running properly. With MB selling over 2.5 million GLC's so what I have read, it's a shame they are treating people in such a manner.
At least your car has normal tires and not the absolutely horrible run-flat noise machines that wear out in 20k miles.
