have to reinitialize carplay EVERY time we switch phones?

Wife and I just picked up a new custom GLC this weekend. In general the car is fantastic - super pleased.

The carplay is driving us nuts though... Bad enough that it doesn't have touch screen (got spoiled with that in our VW).

But what is really annoying is that every time one of us plugs in our phone after the other was the last to use it with their phone, it requires us to fully reinitialize the phone and go through all the acceptance/automatically configure/etc bs. Every **** time! And of course being used to just plugging and going, we are already on the road by the time the system comes up and prompts us to go through all this, and then forces us to put the car in park to do so! Ridiculous.

How do we fix this so that more than one phone can be connected to carplay? BMW, Audi, VW, etc do not have this problem.

We also just bought a GLC this past weekend and discovered exactly the same issue. Have sent a note to our salesperson asking about it and will post an update if we hear anything. Not sure what the point of "automatic" configuration is if you have to reinitialize each time. And, as you mention, the most frustrating part is having to stop the car and put it in park to complete the process.
Driving us nuts! I am trying to make time to talk to the dealership about it too. It must be a bug - no way they designed it this way. Was hopeful it maybe tied a device to a key but that doesn't seem to factor in (and that would be poor design too since you could just as often be a passenger).

Also, I noticed that in the car settings I turned off the auto stop/start ignition "feature" but it seems to ignore that setting and is always on...
Stop/start comes on with the ignition unless the car has been stopped for less than 4 hours with it turned off. You cannot programme it to stay off, same on a lot of cars, just press off by command system knob. You can programme it as off in individual setting but still need to select that.
I'm confused - there is a setting for it to be on/off in the vehicle settings (apologies, still getting used to MB nomenclature - I'll look it up exactly later). What is the point of that setting if it's always just on and you have to manually press the button to turn it off?
Thanks Wes. Will let you know if I hear anything from our end. I also believe that it is a bug. Otherwise, unless we are missing a setting, what is the point of “automatically” connecting vs “manually” connecting?

I have seen a number of discussions about CarPlay online for other cars, but not about this issue and cannot find much at all with respect to CarPlay in the GLC (or other Mercedes for that matter). I would have thought there would be more out there.

Thanks,
Scott
Definitely don't have this problem with Carplay in our 2018 VW, nor have I experienced it in the 2018 Audi A4, or in a 3 series I was rented (not sure of the model year on that one).

You can turn it off in "individual" setting but cannot disable it for all settings e.g. Eco, Comfort, Sport or sport+, has been discussed a lot on different forums.
Scoho have you heard anything? I haven't had a chance to call our dealer yet...
Wes, sorry I responded but wasn't signed in and my reply was lost. We have not heard anything but have not followed up. It seems CarPlay will "automatically" connect for the last iPhone used but requires us to reinitialize each time we change phones. We have just accepted it, and it's become part of the routine when getting in the car to think about which phone was last used and which will be used this time. In the meantime, we also bought the Garmin SD card on Ebay and frequently use it for navigation because it loads immediately and you don't have to think anything. Phone still works with Bluetooth and can use CarPlay if it's preferred.
