Help needed with spec choice

Hello all, I am new to the forum and seriously considering ordering a GLC with the current huge discounts on offer through Drive the Deal. I don't have a huge budget so need to go for the 220d Sport or AMG Line and add in a couple of choice extras. Options are (both in Polar White):

(i) 220d Sport with Off Road Pack (I like the titanium alloys better and the extra off road settings - a steal for £495) plus Driving Assistance Package. Total price £32,191.

(ii) 220d AMG Line with Driving Assistance Package. Total price £33,100.

Does anyone have the Driving Assistance Package and do you like it? I've driven cars with adaptive cruise before and loved it. The addition of various safety features would be peace of mind.

Thoughts? Anything (reasonably priced) you would definitely add?

Also, is the AMG line more aesthetically pleasing and therefore worth?

Finally, the discounts are pretty huge on these cars, should that worry me?

Welcome to the forum Iain.

Don't worry about the discounts, available on all cars at the moment as cars aren't selling.

Hi Iain, I have the 220d Sport Premium Plus with Off-Road Package and Driving Assist Package. I added Air Body Control into the mix as well as I was pursuing a magic carpet ride quality. The air suspension can deliver the stiffer sportier ride provided by the AMG Line trim just by selecting Sport or Sport+ mode but at the same time you can also choose to waft along in supreme comfort whenever you desire. But then I guess I'm more of a function over form person when it comes to bang4buck decisions. I didn't specify the impressive Intelligent Lighting simply because I don't drive enough at night to warrant it and preferred to put the money towards the ABC as I get to experience it every time I get into the car. I felt the useful 50mm increase in standard ride height also improved the whole stance and road presence of the car. I also found Slippery Mode and Downhill Speed Regulation a godsend when getting up and down my very steep driveway entrance in the 8" of snow we had last December. I am actually keeping my fingers crossed for a repeat performance this Friday! I love the Distronic adaptive cruise control and rely on it a lot in slow moving traffic.

Hi Iain,

I have just factory ordered a car through Autoebid and have taken advantage of the 22% discount which in the end was the deciding factor as I have a massive specification car for the basic price of a Jaguar F Pace. You will need to be quick though as Mercedes have now pulled the support on the cars and once stock cars have gone it’s back to 10% discount.

Worth trying Autoebid been very helpful so far and our local dealer couldn’t get anywhere near the deal, although on ordering the car it’s actually coming from the same group!!

18.2% on 350D on carwow. At my local dealership.

Hi Matt,

What model did you order? I checked autoebid and the prices aren’t quite as good as drive the deal. I’m torn between the Sport with Off Road and Driving Assistance pack and paying £800 more for the AMG with Driving Assistance. The AMG model is lovely to look at, but really quite low on the ground compared to other SUVs. The list of standard kit on both is incredible, try ordering a Q5 with the same spec and it will come in at £8k more! Iain
What’s folks thoughts on the fact there is no option for a spare tyre? Seems a bit strange.

Have been driving without spare tire both in US since 2013 and here and never really needed. Assistance is included plus what would you do if 2 tires go bad :)

Wow that’s cheap. I paid way more for less. Assistance package is a must. I don’t have it can of course live without it. But at the time it was difficult to get one and was too pricey. But think very carefully if you want Diesel. There is a huge war going on against diesel cars. In Islington, London I noticed parking on the street now charges 2 pounds extra per hour.

Pity that I guess the license would also cost extra since the price you paying is not the price of the invoice.

The anti Diesel thing is just for older diesels right? I keep seeing annoying "click-bait" headlines (annoying because I click on them :) ) regarding diesels, when you look at the details it's diesels that are like 10 years old....
Porsche have announced that their last diesel Macan has left the production line, petrol only in future.
Diesels are now the spawn of the Devil as far as the Government are concerned. The GLC engine meets the latest Euro 6 emissions test or at least the laboratory version of the test. But that's not good enough as there is no earner in that! They now require all diesels to also pass the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test. But they told manufacturers they only need to be compliant by September 2019. But rather than miss an opportunity they decided that from April they will just jack all diesels which can't meet this RDE standard (none of them can) up a tax band for their first year of VED. So if you have the 220/250d engine you get to pay £160 instead of £140 for your first year of road tax. Of course there's also the additional £310 they would like off you for the next 5 years if you had the audacity to buy a car worth more than £40k. I can see why Mercedes has finally made the 250 petrol engine available here in the UK.
Hi Iain

I ordered a 250 D AMG premium plus with 20” alloys, running boards, 360 camera, tow bar, air suspension and metallic paint. I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and was told the discount was changing. I actually got a factory order with more specification than a current stock car. On this occasion Autoebid were cheaper than drive the deal, also drive the deal was only interested in a stock car but I wanted air suspension and tow bar.

I agree that the GLC is low for an SUV. Also I looked at the Q5, F pace, disco sport and a replacement X3 but nothing can come close to the specification of the GLC for the same money. F pace was nearly £300.00 per mont more and still not specified to the same level.

You will need to be quick as my brother tried to order one today and is struggling to find one with the support in place. Car wow is a good shout but they were still £40.00 per month more expensive which over 3 years pays for the service costs.

Hope this helps please feel free to let me know if you need any further info.

Hi Toobad

That 40k road tax charge is so much of a rip off by our government, it just makes no logic at all. All I can assume is because of the pcp deals more people are driving cars over 40k so it becomes a nice earner for the government.

The worst part is it goes on list price not the price you pay, with the discount I have i’m Not even paying 40k but the list price is over 40k so nearly 500 quid per year road tax for the next 5 years.

Oh well rant over I will throw my soapbox away now

Matt
Have I missed out on the 360 camera?! The online car configurator has the "Parking Package" pre-selected and describes as follows:

"This system makes parking and manoeuvring with a realistic all-round view possible with the help of four networked cameras. The vehicle and its immediate surroundings can be shown as a bird's-eye view on the media display, and obstacles below the window line are also visible to the driver."

I assumed my Premium Plus order would therefore come with the birds eye view image when maneuvering? But I've since noticed the "Parking Pilot with 360 camera" listed as a separate option?
The 360 degree camera is a £335 option even with premium plus, see if you can get it added but wouldn't worry too much if you can't.
I've noticed that the Carwow configurator doesn't show the 360 camera option or Red leather upholstery, although it does list leather as an option.
I wasn't aware of the new car tax mentioned in Toobad's post. Guess we'll have to suck it up - bloody annoying though!

As far as I am aware only black leather is available in the UK.

Just checked on carwow and 360 camera is available but they call it surround camera system.
