Mercdes-Benz Considering GLC Cabriolet

I've never been a fan of convertibles. Perhaps it is because I live in Canada, so it does not seem like a very practical option. I also find convertible SUVs in particular quite unattractive.

Mercedes-Benz is hinting at a possible GLC Cabriolet, following a trend that may be starting with cars like the Evoque Convertible.

[Kelz] also added the GLC Cabriolet project could be viable thanks to the rise in popularity of drop-top SUVs

“It would be fun, and it’s actually not that much of an engineering challenge,” Kelz declared.

However, at the moment there’s no space for such a model in the portfolio of the company. If the automaker gives the project the green light, another model from the lineup would have to be axed, our source also says.
Would you be interested in a GLC convertible?

I can sort of see the attraction, but it will be interesting to see how well the Range Rover Evoque convertible actually sells ? At the end of the day if it's selling like hot cakes then every manufacturer will want a piece of the action. That's simple market dynamics, it doesn't make it a good idea though... I thought the whole point of SUV's was the versatility; with a boot full of roof it's not going to be very versatile surely ?

Convertibles are great fun but have a very limited window of opportunity, well in the North of England they certainly do - I feel your pain in Canada Pavel ! We bought an older model (Volvo C70) with fairly up to date features so that it can sit the winter out in the garage and not cost a lot of cash for what can be as little as a 4 month season. I think this makes more sense than a convertible SUV ?
And here I have found a render. Any opinions now?

It's a great photoshop job indeed, very professional. Doesn't work for me, however I like the diamond grille and the single spar. You could stick a BMW, Audi or Jaguar badge on that image and it wouldn't look out of place.
I personally don't like the rendered convertible version. It looks chunky to me... the front grille is okay.

The rims doesn't go well with that style either..

I don't like the color too...

Just a no for me.
I agree, it does look horrible and doesn't suit the design. Some vehicles have to have a roof to make the design look complete and this is one of those cases. Only special thing i'd want done to a roof is to have a glass panoramic roof, at least then you have an open feel without compromising anything; not design, not functionality, not safety, the list goes on.
I have never understood the whole convertible SUV thing. I think they should stick to panoramic sunroofs. The profile looks totally weird with no roof.

I definitely agree about the roof part.

Just imagine getting hit in the forehead with a stone... you know how sometimes we drive on the freeway and a rock hits our windshield... imagine the impact. If there was a glass panoramic roof, that would be awesome! :grin2:

I know right!

It doesn't make sense at atll!

Panoramic sunroofs for the win!
