Need help with buying a "pre-owned"/ used GLC.

Hi,

I am in the process of buying a 2018 GLC300 with 29K miles.

I'd like to know what (if anything) I should pay attention to (chronic problems?) and check before I pick up the vehicle.

Buying from a MB dealer, the vehicle will be certified with factory warranty till Aug. 2022, and certified warranty till Aug. 2023.
As per Carfax which the dealer sent to me, there were no issues except few times tire re-balancing. Looks like all the regular maintenance was done including brake fluid flash, cabin filter.
I test drove it and did not feel anything abnormal.
The pass. side rear door molding was not aligned well with the rear quarter molding, but the door closes fine and the edge is smooth.
NAV and radio would not show up on the screen but the rear cam and AC controls did show on the screen.
Salesman said it will be fixed as well as a scratch on rear bumper.

I'd appreciate your responses.
Have not bought a used ("pre-owned") vehicle in a while, so I am somewhat clueless about what to look for, esp. that we never had an MB and I am not familiar with the brand.

Also, regardless of the the dealer / carfax saying it had not been in an accident, I ordered a paint thickness gauge to check the paint before we sign the paperwork.
Am I missing anything else?

Thanks

So if I read this correctly you are buying a certified pre owned vehicle and I would hope that you will find out how much the dealership will charge you for an extension. If they do and you can afford it take it. Mercs are expensive and so are repairs, Google the year and model for complaints and that should help

Hi Keefrto,

Thanks for replying to me- I actually would like to know what areas/specific parts of the GLC I should pay the attention to when picking up the vehicle.

Are there weak spots/ parts of the GLC that I should look carefully at before giving the money?

For example, during my initial visit to the dealership, after a short test drive I noted a misaligned rear door molding- so i am going to bring a paint thickness gauge when I go there to pick it up.

Are there oil leaking areas typical for this engine that I could look for ? Turbo problems? That kind of stuff.

Thanks

I haven't noticed rear door moulding issue, oil I don't believe is a problem and my car is sitting in minus 20 c right now. No issues with turbo so far. As far as I am aware as long as it's a certified pre owned and MB state that then
it's much better than a used vehicle inspection they do. What have you heard about the car?

I really am not aware of the 2018 model issues if they have much at all.

Check to see if the auto engine shutoff works when you come me to a stop at a red light. Common issues for me have been old battery (which otherwise works fine) and bad auxiliary battery aka voltage converter when not working.

Hi I’ve got a 2017 350d amg premium plus 35500 miles, after owning it for 5 months have decided that I’m not impressed at all with the build quality compared to my old a6 avant which had 190000 miles on it when I sold it, don’t get me wrong the glc looks good but not as robust as my Audi, the drivers seat is wearing and is down to the threads as I would probably say and have recently found out that they are infact made of vinyl not leather which you would at least expect with a premium brand like Mercedes’ professes to be, this seems to be a common problem not sure if it is with glc only, all in all I don’t think it will last 190000 miles of normal ownership and driving it seems as though MB are cost cutting and poor build quality inc parts but commanding top money, this is my first Mercedes’ and probably my last which is a shame as they do look good😟😟😟

Cyp66,
Thanks for replying to me- this GLC replaced 2010 Audi Q5 with 100K miles.
I believe that Audi drove better - it more engaging to drive but at the same time, more comfortable.
It felt like it was a bigger vehicle and drove like a bigger one too.
But after 100K miles it was falling apart.
In fact the mechanic who bought it from me had to put a lot of time and money before selling it (at least he said that to me).
I do not think we are going to keep this one after 60-70K miles. Will see how it "behaves".

That’s quite ironic as I was looking for an sq5 plus when i saw this glc, I was adamant I was having an sq5 but did like the look of glc, it is difficult to find an sq5 plus with a good spec especially for the price they command
