Something for the misses

Hey guys,

New to the forum and trying to learn some more about what this truck has to offer (pros and cons.) Currently on the search for something for the wife, and naturally she has suggested a Mercedes. I've looked at some various reviews and articles online, but I wanted to come somewhere where I could see what current owners have to say. Hoping to hear good things, but will certainly appreciate a heads up on known issues. Cheers!

Welcome Caysen, would assist if you put your location on your profile. Assume by your truck reference that you are in the US (guessing), GLC300 isn't available in UK so information would be different.
GLC200 for wife but AMG 43 for men. lol
Yes I'm from the U.S (updated my location). I see that both of you have opted for the AMG trim, and I'm not sure my wife would agree with your statement aha. There's a pretty serious difference in price between trims, did you guys have a chance to look at/drive the base model GLC?
Totally different models in the UK, only petrols are the AMG 43 and 63, all the other models are diesels.
i tested drove the GLC 300 and love the overall responses and ride quality. switch at very last minute to AMG because of the ABC and the diamond Grille.. lol..

AMG 43 is mad power and the ride even in comfort mode is rough with run flat but i love it... pure madness with the exhaust sound.
I did test drive an entry level (220D) in UK. I thought it was very good, for me, the diesel engine laboured are bit too much and was a little noisier than I'd like. The 350D is definitely smoother and more powerful (more expensive). I'll be towing a caravan (trailer) as well.

220D is a perfectly capable car it's horses for courses....

I did test drive a 350D as well and the differences were enough to make me go for that instead. No doubt it I'd test driven the 43, I'd have wanted that instead hahaha. The fuel economy put me off the AMG43 as the prices of the 350D and AMG43 are comparable (ish)

Graham
You are correct regarding the price Graham, £3000 difference but if you add air suspension to the 350d which is standard on the 43 not much difference.
I only do about 5000 miles a year so 22 mpg isn't an issue to me, worth it for the exhaust note alone.
Just noticed the UK GLC configurator is now offering a 250 badged model with a 2-litre petrol engine allegedly returning 43.5mpg. Usually you end up paying a significant premium for a diesel engine but since the Government have recently rebranded the diesel engine as the spawn of the Devil, I see Mercedes has taken the opportunity to charge you an extra £200 should you opt for the now more environmentally acceptable petrol engine. I'm sure all the flax shirt wearing hipsters will be queuing up around the block.
Discovery sport has recently become available with petrol engines, sign of the times.

You aren't the first person I've heard make mention of the not so great ride comfort, but I assume that's the be expected with the extra power offering the AMG provides. I'm not sure if I like the idea of my wife having pure madness under her foot aha. I think its more than likely I'll take her to test drive the base model 300 and see what she has to say. Have you any of you guys done any modifications with the truck?
