One of the regular posters on the OZ Whirlpool forums for the GLC, sadly needs a windscreen replacement ...after a long journey half way across the nation and back, he scored a flying stone, only a few Kms from home.

He got quoted AUD $1850 from a Dealer.

At today's rates that matches up to :
GBP £960
USD $1356

Is this comparable in your part of the globe ??

Doesn't Ozzie insurance cover windscreens? I know with hire cars you need extra cover but wasn't aware normal domestic policies didn't cover.

I don't know the cost of a windscreen in the UK but what I'd have to pay is an excess on my insurance of £50. There probably would be additional excess if I insisted it was a genuine MB replacement though, which of course I would want.

The chap said he was collecting quotes to send to his insurer.
Not sure, why he had to do that, rather just contact them and get the go-ahead.

Yep, Insurance options the same in Oz. Most insurers will cover a number of Windscreen replacements during the period of insurance, without a hit on your "No Claim Bonus" or utilising your 'Excess' component, though this nearly always comes with an additional fee. If it is included automatically , these policies are always more expensive.

So it is your choice to opt-in or not.

Insurance is a 'Risk-game', for you and the company !!
...it's just that they have all the statistics and you don't.
