I mentioned an "update" that the dealer recently applied to address the battery issue. Here are the details. So far the issue has not recurred.

Last February, after getting multiple battery critically low emails, the dealer did the door module update. Everything was fine (except for the CEL coming on sporatically), always started. But a couple of weeks ago, I got another low battery email, big surprise. I put it on the trickle charger for a few hours. I guess the door module update helps and is worth getting done but the situation is not cured. It has been very cold (single digits F) lately and I am sure that does not help. Modern cars are much too complex, doing everything, trying to be everything to everybody.

So after I picked up my vehicle, they claimed there was a miscommunication and they removed that message off of the final invoice but not before I forwarded it to the class-action lawsuit lawyers.

Battery #4 was replaced two weeks ago 1 week after Battery #3 was installed, I received the low-battery notification yesterday when I arrived home and parked the car, and again 30 minutes ago while sitting in my office. Obviously, this is not a battery issue. Two batteries in less than a month? 8 on the previous one before that?

Why hasn't MB fixed this issue yet? Becuase they haven't the foggiest idea what's causing it.
Kicking the can down the road is the only option until they have a real fix. Meanwhile, warranties are expiring, and MB is doing everything in its power to avoid a "Global Recall" that could potentially affect all models 2018-present (over a million vehicles). I've got one more warranty year, and by the time that expires, I need to be driving another brand, which is sad and disappointing because this is my first ride w/MBenz. Back to Lexus or Lincoln (2025 Nautilus Reserve III)?

I'm going to have them look into that Door Module issue when I drop it off again. Otherwise, they're just going to replace the battery for the 3rd time since January and for the 5th time since 2021.

I definitely want to solve this issue soon. Looking at new 2025 products across multiple brands and I'm really not that impressed for the $$$. Especially the 2025 GLCs. The infotainment system, while attempting to be like Telsa misses the mark. It's positioned too low for my liking, causing me to look down too frequently while driving and the two models I drove each for a week were not very responsive. I'd also rather have the hard buttons back, rather than all touch, especially on the steering wheel. I accidentally hang up on everybody, every damn time. 😆

YMMV

We have a 2017 GLC turbo 60,000 miles California SUV.

What is the current thinking on occasionally attaching
a small trickle to the main 12 volt battery ?

Wise idea ? Any downsides to this ? Thanks

This past winter I hooked up the trickle charger many times mainly to be able to have enough charge to put it into Standby mode. I was at the dealer three weeks ago for snow tire change over and they installed a new 12 volt battery for the first time and also had a new TSB that updated the door modules for a second time. I now can put it into standby anytime with a 10 week time frame (without any trickle charger). Seems to be much better but of course the weather is much warmer now.

Picked up my ordered 2023 GLC about six weeks ago. Put 3000 miles on it with no problems whatsoever. Then it sat in my garage for about three weeks (I was out of town). A few days ago I received an automatically generated email from Mercedes Me Connect telling me my battery charge status was “critical” and to drive the car for 30 to 60 minutes or connect a battery charger. So I drove it. Everything OK. Looking into this I discovered that the car is using it’s 12 V battery just by sitting, whether on the dealer’s lot or in your garage. Maybe it is connected to online services, alarm system, 360 degree feature or whatever. A low battery can cause all kinds of problems. If you know the car is going to sit for ”extended periods of non-operation” (Mercedes manual) you should turn on the “standby mode” found in the multimedia system under settings>vehicle>open/close. This is reviewed on page 190 in the 2023 GLC manual. Also, it will tell you how many weeks it is good for when you turn this on. Do this only when you have a full/normal charge level to start with. Hope this helps.
Wow Same thing here too. Day before yesterday, I got a weird message from Mercedes about the 12 V battery. I ignored it today. I wanted to start my car. There is 12 V amber flash in the car. Car totally dead now ; registered for roadside assistance. Took 35 minutes and he says to wait for 60 to 90 minutes. This is not the way. I wanted this day to go to go frustrating. Thanks for the info. Thanks for the info. at least I know the reason now, good weekend.
